John Valadez is a realist painter and muralist whose works has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the U.S., Europe, and Mexico. In the 1970s and 1980s Valadez worked actively with Chicano Arts collectives such as Los Four and Centro de Arte Publico in Highland Park.

Barry sits down in studio for a conversation with John Valadez, a huge part of the Chicano art movement in Los Angeles. John is a realist painter and muralist whose works has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the U.S., Europe, and Mexico. In the 1970s and 1980s Valadez worked actively with Chicano Arts collectives such as Los Four and Centro de Arte Publico in Highland Park. Valadez’s work often are murals focused on giving visibility to a Mexican-American Los Angeles.

Valadez has been making art for nearly half a century defining the Chicano experience of Southern California and his hometown of Los Angeles. His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the U.S., Europe and Mexico and he just returned from Rome, Italy where his work was represented in a major exhibition sponsored by the AltaMed Foundation.
